Buffalo Zoo Gates National Register Nomination

Picture1.jpg

With Fly/Hunt
While researching African American cultural resources in Buffalo, Fly/Hunt discovered that the Buffalo Zoo plan was expanded and developed by African American architect and landscape Architect John E. Brent.  Most of Brent’s works have since been demolished, so the nomination of the Zoo Gates (the last extant part of his initial zoo plan) were critical to save.  The nomination to the National Register of Historic Places was successful with the help of the NY State Office of Historic Preservation.  The nomination is separate and apart from the Buffalo Zoo nomination, which is a part of the overall Olmsted Parks nomination.
